Unless we teach history correctly, we cannot fully understand the present. What do we really know about the past? Not everything the church teaches about the past is right. Some doctrine today is based incorrect teachings about the past. The result is Christians worship on the wrong day of the week, celebrate man made holidays, and ignore ones given by God. Scholars looking back at source writings and physical remains ignore what the Bible says about it.
The earth is only about 6,100 years old and the scriptures prove it. The church should redirect its predominant reliance upon secular sources toward the Bible's consistently reliable historical chronology as the Bible includes an accurate and almost complete time table from Adam until Christ, the only possible gap being between Daniel and the Crucifixion. Many alleged uncertainties are resolved after further examination. The chronology from Adam to Christ is simple enough for elementary school children to learn and should be taught as a foundation for all other history. Secular schools perform the same task substituting evolution and vast amounts of time for creation and a young age of the Earth. By starting with the correct overview of history, only then can Christians properly develop the background for other historical teachings.
Almost every time I see a picture of the animals on, or going to, Noah's ark, the picture is wrong. It took me a long time to catch on although I have read the scripture passage many times. The pictures always show two of every animal. This is incorrect. The clean animals, such as the sheep and cattle, came in by sevens.
Noah's Ark landed east of Babylon and not in Turkey.
Pastors, scholars and teachers often refer to something called the Table of Nations and then act as though we can understand where nations are today as a result. It is really a list and not a table. It fails to identify where the most of the nations were and who they are today.
The scholars have failed once again. Some scholars point out what they think is a conflict in the Bible. According to them, Abraham left Haran when his Father, Terah died. They use Acts 7:4 to support this. The Bible says Terah died at the age of 205 (Genesis 11:32). Terah was 70 years old when Abraham was born (Genesis 11:26). Abraham was 75 when he moved to Canaan (Genesis 12:4). Therefore, Terah was 145 when Abraham left Haran. Did Terah die at 145 or 205?
The prophetic year, as taught by many scholars today, just isn't right. The term "prophetic year" is never mentioned in the Bible. Methods to derive the length of a so-called prophetic year use incorrect logic and assumptions. Several passages in scripture have been taken out of context to create the prophetic year.
The Bible gives two accounts which are hard to explain.
The Shroud of Turin is said to be the cloth in which Jesus was buried. Controversy has grown as to its authenticity. According to the Bible, the shroud cannot be real.
The Western Wall or the Wailing Wall that is found at the temple mount in Jerusalem today is thought to date back to the time of Jesus. This teaching is incorrect. It was built after the destruction of Jerusalem. It was not a part of, or associated with, the second temple.
I have heard many times that all of the apostles died violent deaths except John. This is just not true. John was to die a violent death.
Flavius Josephus was not a credible historian, yet seminaries still teach students about Josephus and his works. People feel challenged when confronted with the issues. The works of Josephus are full of errors.
Eusebius wrote about the conversion of the emperor Constantine. Was Constantine really a Christian? Eusebius erred in the account of Constantine's conversion.
Many people died but are the accounts accurate? For example, how did the Apostle Peter Die? He was crucified upside down, right? Well maybe, but you better check your sources.
Did the Bible predict the exact year of Israel's reestablishment based on Ezekiel chapter 4?
Preachers and Bible Study teachers have other teachings, saying or habits that are displeasing to God.
