If a scholar does not know that, he does not know what he is talking about.
Do we know who wrote Ecclesiastes? Some scholars have tried to argue against the Bible using "new" information to say that Solomon was not the author whom God used to write the book of Ecclesiastes. They say that we do not know who the author was. Their criteria was based on worldly commentary and not on the word of God. Had they been faithful in regularly reading all of the Bible and studying it, they would not have this problem. God was the author and Solomon was the writer of Ecclesiastes.
Ecclesiastes 1:1 tells us that the writer was the son of David and that he was king in Jerusalem. Ecclesiastes 1:12 says he was king over Israel in Jerusalem. There were only two kings over Israel in Jerusalem; David and Solomon. After Solomon, Israel and Judah split. All the others were kings over Judah in Jerusalem or kings over Israel in a city other than Jerusalem. If he was the son of David, he could have only been Solomon.
He could not have been a co-regent or a king that ruled concurrent with another such a son ruling with his father. In Ecclesiastes 1:16 he says "… I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem ..." No king after Solomon could make this claim. Chapter 2 verse 7 says, "I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:" Ecclesiastes 2:9 says, "So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem:". No other king could claim to be above all or be greater than all that we before him except King Solomon. Solomon's son Rehoboam followed on the throne. In Ecclesiastes 1:13 we find, "And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith." Reohoboam did not seek wisdom. In fact, his foolishness was the last cause in the kingdom of Israel splitting.
Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. The "scholars" who question who the writer of Ecclesiastes was should spend more time studying their Bible and less time studying the world.

Preachers look to sources other than the Bible. They need to spend more time in the Bible so they will not cast doubt on the word of God.
